Definition

Cellulite is fat deposited just below the surface of the skin. It occurs around the hips, thighs, lower legs, abdomen, and even on the shoulder. Because it is very close to the surface of the skin, cellulite sometimes give a dimpled appearance.

Causes and symptoms

cellulite_scarsCellulite may be more visible than other fat deeper in the body. Even thin people can have cellulite, because we all have layers of fat just below the surface of the skin. Collagen fibers that connect fat to the skin may stretch, break down, or pull tight, allowing the fat cells to bulge out. This creates the rippled look of cellulite.

- Grade one:  No symptom

- Grade two:  Cellulite appears during muscle contracture, and disappear when muscles relax

- Grade three:  Cellulite appears even when muscles are relaxed

Genetics may play a part in whether or not you have cellulite. A poor diet, "fad" dieting, a slow metabolism, hormonal changes, and even dehydration may play a role. People who wants to get rid of cellulite by means of weight loss, exercise, massages, creams, supplements, or surgery can have equivocal results depending on areas concerned. Liposuction, for instance, is not recommended for cellulite, and may even make it look worse.

Although many doctors and cosmetic surgeons recognize cellulite as a legitimate problem that patients seek to have them "cure". Some medical community doesn't view cellulite as a disorder, but noninvasive procedure can be an alternative to improve the appearance.

Treatment

cellulitesRadiofrequency (RF)

The mechanism is to use Radiofrequency to burn cellulite and stimulate collagen formation instead under the dermis.  After a single treatment in three weeks' time, fat reduces gradually, while collagen is increased and proliferate over dermis. Skin will return to looking tighter, with a smoother appearance.

Microneedle and CO2 Fractional Laser

Microneedle treatment or CO2 fractional laser can effectively remove collagen. By inducing microtrauma into the skin, collagen formation is stimulated while cellulites are broken down and burn away with the resultant micro-inflammation.
